Updates - Coronavirus (COVID-19) News

With Coronavirus having spread to most countries and with constant changes to travel restrictions, we are constantly reviewing our forward calendar of challenge events, to come to responsible decisions based on the wellbeing of all stakeholders.

We wish to continue operating as many of our scheduled challenges as possible and we will continue to do this within the official prevailing rules, regulations, and guidelines, with the welfare of our customers and staff as the top priority.

Over the last 21 years we have taken thousands of people on incredible journeys all over the world; to the summit of Kilimanjaro, exploring the wonder of The Himalaya, discovering new cultures in Asia, the Americas and beyond. This will continue and grow, as we focus on our forward departures and prepare the release of more exciting itineraries for you to enjoy in 2021 onwards.

We value the support we've received from our committed challengers and we look forward to seeing you soon, to take you on your next adventure.

We understand that many of our participants have questions and concerns during this time. This is a constantly evolving situation, so we hope that the below information will help inform your decision on the challenge you have booked, or are planning to book.

We have contacted all groups with departures that have been specifically affected by the restrictions put in place by both the UK and other Governments. This currently includes our challenges departing before the end of June 2020 to the following regions: China, Nepal, the Americas, Jordan, Peru, Borneo, Spain & Italy. Due to the current restrictions in place, these challenges are being rescheduled to later dates and all participants have been contacted with the options available to them.

We will be continuously rolling our reviews as the situation continues and will be in touch with each group departing individually as these reviews take place. We've included below, the current statements that apply for each of the countries affected, as well as an FAQ section based on what we've been receiving thus far.

Please be assured that we are continuing to monitor this situation closely and are in contact with our local teams and airlines, as well as monitoring Public Health England, the WHO, and the FCO. To keep up to date on these details too, you can follow the below links:

Trip-Specific Information

Great Wall of China

Our Great Wall of China trips were the first affected in this instance and this meant the postponement of our May & August trips this year.

We are still taking registrations for Autumn 2020, and trips throughout 2021 where we feel optimistic that these challenges will go ahead. Our October 2020 departure is almost full so if you wish to join, you should think about doing this soon!

Currently, all international passenger flights to Beijing will be diverted to 12 designated airports where passengers will be subject to health checks before onward travel to Beijing. Those failing health checks, and those seated close to those who fail health checks may be required to undergo 14 days quarantine where they first landed, before being allowed to travel to Beijing.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Everest Base Camp

Due to Government restrictions, we have had to postpone all of our March, April & May Everest Base Camp trips. We are optimistic for our Autumn season and are still taking registrations for then and 2021.

The Government of Nepal has announced the suspension of all international flights from 22 March, until 31 March. Nepal is not issuing tourist visas on arrival to any foreign nationals. Those entering on existing tourist visas must show a valid swab test PCR certificate completed no more than 7 days before their entry to Nepal. This requirement is being rigorously enforced. Those entering must subsequently stay in self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Kilimanjaro

The Tanzanian Government currently has strengthened screening measures in place for all arrivals and those showing symptoms will be isolated and may be put in Quarantine. Those arriving from high-risk countries are being recommended to self-isolate – we are seeking clarification from the Government of Tanzania as to whether this includes the UK.

Therefore we have contacted those traveling to Kilimanjaro with us in the early summer period to inform you of the exact status of your trip and procedures we have ready in place for any potential changes being made to the travel restrictions.

At present, we are waiving the transfer fees for these groups to allow customers to re-schedule their challenge for more peace of mind about their trips.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Jordan

On 14 March, the Jordanian Government announced that commercial flights in to and out of Jordan will be stopped and all land and sea borders will be closed at 11.59pm on Monday 16 March.

This resulted in the postponement of our April Jordan Trip,  however, we are still taking registrations for our September Jordan trek and 2021 Jordan treks where we feel optimistic that these challenges will go ahead.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Grand Canyon

Due to Government restrictions, we have had to postpone our May Grand Canyon Trek. With determination to take in the beautiful Grand Canyon, the postponement to October was well received, and we're still taking registrations for our Autumn dates and 2021 trips with optimism that they will remain unaffected.

As of 16 March, it will not be possible for many British nationals to enter the USA if they have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran or China within the previous 14 days. British nationals will also be unable to transit the USA on an ESTA visa waiver if they have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran or China within the previous 14 days.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Peru

We have had to postpone our April Challenges taking on the Inca Trail due to Government restrictions. Our August trip is still confirmed at present and we'll continue to monitor this closely as we are still taking registrations for this and 2021 challenges.

All borders are currently closed for an initial period of 15 days with effect from 16 March. Peru announced a ban on all flights arriving from and departing to Europe and Asia, with effect from Monday 16 March. The ban is for 30 days and could be extended.

As it stands, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Snowdon

The UK Government has enforced restrictions on public gatherings, non-essential travel and has closed many businesses where these are likely to occur.

Therefore our Snowdon Night Summits in May, Jun & July have all been postponed. We have opened up a new date in October for these participants to transfer to if they wish, and will be releasing 2021 night summits soon too. We will be in contact with other Snowdon Trips confirmed later in the year if they are also affected.

The current UK Governmental Guidelines are as follows:

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)

  • Stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people

  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

  • Staying at home and away from others (social distancing)

TRANSFERRING MY EVENT:

As long as the FCO or a foreign government has not restricted travel to the country you are visiting, it is most likely that we will be continuing with your challenge. In this event, if you decide to cancel or defer your challenge, the standard T&C’s will apply.

If we have any general suspicion that your trip will be negatively affected by travel restrictions, we intend to act before government restrictions are put in place, to allow you the option to transfer to a later challenge for your peace of mind.

If due to the UK or Foreign government restrictions or official advice, we are forced to defer your challenge, you will be given the opportunity to transfer to a new challenge later in the year or for next year. Your health and safety is our primary concern, and we're more than happy to work with you to find a suitable alternative for you to take on your challenge at a later date.

FAQ's

When will I hear about my trip?

We've currently contacted all participants on our trips up to the end of June. July & August trips are currently entering review and we'll be in touch with those participants as soon as we have further updates. Unless you hear otherwise, it is safe to assume that your challenge is currently going ahead as planned.

Our reviews are being made daily and we don't expect to make firm decisions until approx 3 months prior to each challenge. Of course this must remain flexible to fit with the uncertain times that we're in.

Please be assured that we are contacting any affected challenges as soon as we know more detail and will present you with all options available, and give you all of our energy to find suitable alternatives.

What will happen if my trip can't go ahead?

We will send you an e-mail alerting you of this detail - so keep monitoring your inbox. We will also follow up with you if we don't hear back within a few days to ensure you've seen this alert.

Within this e-mail, we will outline all options available to you, including a list of new dates that we've made available, so that you can still take on this challenge when the time suits better.

We'll include a quick form for you to select the option best for you, or of course if you wish to discuss further, we'll be happy to chat through even more options with you and highlight any offers available for you to take advantage of when making your changes.

How can I contact you to check on my trip?

Our office team are currently following Government Guidelines and are now working from home. Therefore as we aren't contactable via the usual office number, the best mode of contact will be via e-mail. Please send any enquiries to ask@actionchallenge.com

If you would like to request we call you, please send an e-mail to the same address with your contact number & the best times to contact you and one of our team will be in touch.

Please note, we are still working under the usual office hours of 9:00 - 5:30 weekdays.
