This 9-day group cycle challenge begins in the enchanting northern city of Chiang Mai. From here, we embark on an unforgettable journey across Thailand’s rural heartland, riding a mix of quiet backroads and scenic gravel trails. Our adventure includes cycling past emerald rice paddies, sugarcane fields, and traditional villages, exploring the UNESCO-listed ruins of Sukhothai, and visiting the historic Si Satchanalai Park. We’ll experience authentic Thai hospitality with a homestay in Ban Na Ton Chan and glide through riverside towns like Uthai Thani. The challenge concludes in Ayutthaya and Bangkok, where we celebrate with a riverside dinner after exploring the city’s iconic sights
We will meet our group and Action Challenge staff at the airport and check in together before boarding our flight to Thailand.
Touch down in Chiang Mai, the fabled “Rose of the North.” You’ll be greeted at the airport and taken to your hotel, where we’ll have the day time for a bike fitting. Depending on the flight arrival time, there may be the opportunity to explore this enchanting city — a mosaic of ancient temples, bustling markets, and fragrant street food. Wander through golden-spired wats, watch saffron-robed monks glide past, and feel the rhythm of northern Thailand sink in. As the sun sets, we gather for our welcome dinner, sharing stories, laughter, and a taste of what lies ahead — an unforgettable cycling adventure through the soul of Thailand.
After breakfast, we board a local train bound for Uttaradit, a journey that feels like a passage through time — rolling past emerald rice paddies, misty hills, and timeless rural scenes. Once we arrive, we’ll set off toward Ban Na Ton Chan, a charming village known for its warm hospitality and centuries-old traditions. Here, locals weave beautiful fabrics by hand, farm rice and lemons organically, and welcome us with one of the most memorable dinners of the trip. It’s not just a stopover — it’s an immersion into authentic Thai life.
We bid farewell to our hosts and roll out onto the red gravel roads — the scent of earth and adventure in the air. Today’s ride takes us deep into the heart of rural Thailand, along quiet dirt tracks framed by sugar-cane fields, emerald rice paddies, and sleepy hamlets where curious children wave as we pass.
Midway, we explore the Si Satchanalai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient city of artisans and temples dating back to 1250 AD — a hidden gem few travellers ever see.
By afternoon, we reach Sukhothai, Thailand’s first capital and the cradle of Siamese civilization. In the evening, you have free time to hop on a tuk-tuk for a sunset tour of its magnificent ruins — crumbling stone Buddhas and lotus-topped stupas glowing gold in the fading light. A magical end to a truly epic day in the saddle.
Today we truly go off the map — pedalling along smooth dirt tracks and quiet backroads where the hum of nature replaces the roar of engines. The landscape is pure rural Thailand: golden fields, wildlife, and the occasional motorbike or tractor passing by. These fast, flowing trails are a cyclist’s dream — and a reminder of why we came here.
We overnight in a simple rural town rarely visited by foreigners. Here, the food is hearty, the smiles are genuine, and you’ll feel the spirit of real Thailand all around you.
Another beautiful day unfolds as we weave through a patchwork of rice paddies and sugarcane fields, far from the tourist trail. Small temples and roadside shrines appear like hidden jewels amid the greenery. In the afternoon, we arrive in Uthai Thani, a laid-back riverside town where life moves at the pace of the Chao Phraya River. We’ll take a gentle boat ride to see the last remaining raft house community in Thailand — a glimpse into a disappearing way of life. The evening is yours: stroll the night market, unwind with a Thai massage, or simply relax and watch the river drift by
After a colourful morning visit to the local market, we saddle up for our final day of cycling. The route meanders through freshwater fishing villages, where locals greet us with warm smiles and waves. We end our ride with a cheerful riverside lunch in Chai Nat, celebrating our miles and memories. Then we transfer to Ayutthaya, the majestic former capital of Siam.
By sunset, we explore its UNESCO-listed temple ruins — stone Buddhas, banyan roots, and golden spires glowing in the fading light. A fitting finale to our two-wheeled journey through history.
After days of adventure, the morning is yours — sleep in or rise early to wander Ayutthaya’s temples one last time. After lunch, we transfer to Bangkok, where city life hums with colour and energy. In the evening, we gather for a celebratory dinner by the river — a perfect ending to our unforgettable ride across Thailand
Subject to the time of our return flight there may be time for breakfast, and enjoy some free time in Bangkok. Later, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home. Depending on flight timings, you may arrive back in the UK the following day.
