Trek the Most iconic route in south america

The ‘W’ trek in the Torres Del Paine National Park is the iconic challenge in Southern America, consistently being voted in the top 5 trails of the world. Located in Chile’s Southern tip, this 10 day adventure will take you into the heart of one of the great wilderness parks. Come face to face with the native flora and fauna of the Patagonian steppe, such as guanacos, Lamagaia and more. All set against a backdrop of glaciers, stunning trails and, of course, the awesome peaks of the Torres Del Paine.

Day 1 Depart UK

The team will meet at the airport, at the check in zone, 3 hours before departure. Please look out for our trip Leader & Medic in a red ‘Action Challenge’ t-shirt. You don’t need to worry about your tickets as the Action Challenge team will have these ready to give you at the airport. You will just need your passport to hand.

Day 2 Arrive Punta Arenas

On arrival into Santiago, we will take a domestic flight to Punta Arenas, on the Southern tip of Chile. We are met on arrival by our local team and will transfer to get settled into our hotel for the night. Here we will have a group briefing, before we go to a restaurant for dinner. We will then go to bed and get some needed rest.

Day 3 Torres Del Paine National Park

After breakfast, we begin our 6-7 hour transfer to Torres del Paine National Park. Along the way, we’ll stop for a packed lunch. We’re dropped at Pudeto Pier to catch a 40-minute ferry across stunning Pehoe Lake. Depending on time, we’ll take a short, easy loop walk from camp. Today offers a first glimpse of Patagonia’s wild beauty, passing estancias and sheep farms. In the evening, we meet the full team and receive a trip briefing before settling into our tents beneath the Patagonian stars.

Day 4 The Grey Glacier

After breakfast, we begin our first major trek, hiking 3–4 hours toward Grey Glacier. Along the way, we may catch our first views of the Southern Patagonian Icecap spilling into Lago Grey. We’ll pause for a packed lunch and take in the scenery before continuing to the stunning mirador, where we can watch icebergs calve into the lake—a truly awe-inspiring sight. This iconic viewpoint offers a perfect photo opportunity of the granite towers reflected in the turquoise water. We then return to Paine Grande Camp for dinner and rest.

Day 5 French Valley

Today’s route follows one of the Paine range’s most spectacular cirques. After breakfast, we trek to a mirador overlooking the impressive Frances Glacier. From here, we enjoy panoramic views of glacial lakes and the rear of the iconic Paine Towers. We’ll stop for lunch before continuing our hike, taking time to admire the glacier and surrounding peaks. We then descend to Italian Camp and follow a steep, undulating trail above Lago Nordenskjold to our next camp, set beneath the dramatic Cuernos del Paine. We finish the day at Refuge Frances with a group dinner and well-earned rest.

Day 6 Lake Nordenskjold

After a comfortable night and wholesome breakfast, we will set off on a relatively short easy day hiking following Lago Nordenskjold to Las Torres. The track undulates upwards for some time along the lake, presenting magnificent views of Paine Chico and the Towers ahead of us, and the Cuernos behind. We will stop for some lunch along the route for a rest and re-fuel for our afternoon trek. We then descend for half an hour, crossing several gushing rivers over the rolling forested terrain and then climb steeply away from the lake over a pass. We come to a flat stretch around a small lake and then gradually descend to our Refuge. As the sun begins to set, we will arrive at central camp, where we will have a group dinner before going to bed.

Day 7 Torres Del Paine

Today may be the highlight of our Torres stay. After an early breakfast, we begin a five-hour trek up the Torres Valley toward the iconic granite towers. The route starts with a steep climb beside 2668m Paine Chico, then descends to the Chileno refuge, where we pause for lunch, views, and facilities. We continue with a challenging 2.5-hour ascent through a glaciated valley, finishing with a rocky scramble to the towers. After soaking in the views, we return to Refuge Torre Central in Las Torres. Tonight, we celebrate our final trek day with a traditional group meal in the heart of the park.

Day 8 Return Punta Arenas

Following breakfast, we will depart our camp for the last time and head out of the park. After an hour and a half, we will stop in Puerto Natales to have a look around our surrounding area and enjoy a tasty lunch. We will then catch our afternoon transfer, which should take approximately 6-7 hours, to Punta Arenas. Depending on our flight schedule, we may catch our flight back to the UK tonight – otherwise we will spend one final night Punta Arenas, before an early morning flight the next day.
