Whether you’re taking on our Kenya safari cycle challenge, going cross-country on Vietnam 2 Cambodia or facing the hills on the Sri Lanka coast 2 coast – an Action Challenge cycle will be an unforgettable experience. Our group challenges offer you a fun, social and safe way to explore a new destination on 2 wheels, and we include full support for you every step of the way.
Whether you’re already signed up for a challenge, or considering it – here are some handy tips covering training, gear, safety, and how to capture every moment.
Training & Fitness: Build Your Base Early

1. Start Early
Begin training at least 3โ4 months in advance. Gradually increase your distance each week, aiming for a mix of short rides during the week and longer rides on weekends.
2. Train for the Terrain
If your challenge includes hills, or off-road sections, try to replicate those conditions in your training. Ride on trails or gravel paths. While you can’t replicate the climate of some of our more “tropical” destinations – you can take your training rides in the hotter parts of the day & during the summer months if possible! Just remember to carry plenty of water!
3. Cross-Train
Incorporate strength training, yoga, or swimming to build core strength and flexibilityโkey for long days in the saddle.
4. Practice Nutrition
Train with the snacks and hydration strategies youโll use on the challenge. And remember to bring your favourite treats out on the challenge with you (although remember that your chocolate bars may not survive the heat!).
Kit Essentials: What to Pack and Why

1. Clothing
- Padded cycling shorts (bring at least 2 pairs)
- Breathable jerseys
- Lightweight waterproof jacket
- Gloves (for grip and comfort)
- Buff or neck gaiter (for dust and sun)
2. Accessories
- Helmet (mandatory)
- Hydration pack or bottles
- Sunglasses with UV protection
- Bike lights (if riding early or late)
- Multi-tool, spare tubes, and puncture repair kit
Making the Most of the Experience

1. Capture the Journey
Bring a GoPro or phone mount for your handlebars to record the ride. A small tripod or selfie stick can help with group shots at scenic stops. Be careful if riding one-handed to capture that selfie though – taking your eyes off the trail and riding one-handed can be a recipe for disaster!
2. Stay Connected
- Use apps like WhatsApp or Signal to stay in touch with loved ones.
- Consider a local SIM card – our team can help you pick one up on arrival in country
- Don’t sweat it if you find you are without connection for a few days. Enjoy being “off-grid”, and send your updates back home when you get back online.
3. Journal It
Keep a small notebook or use a journaling app to jot down daily highlights, thoughts, and funny moments. Youโll thank yourself later.
Safety First: Especially Off the Beaten Track

1. Ride Smart
- Keep a safe distance from other riders.
- Communicate with hand signals and voice.
- Donโt take unnecessary risks on descents or technical sections.
2. Heat & Hydration
- Start hydrating before you feel thirsty.
- Use electrolyte tablets or drinks.
- Wear sunscreen and reapply regularly.
3. Emergency Prep
- Carry a basic first aid kit.
- Have emergency contacts saved in your phone and written down.
