With 5 nights of camping in the majestic setting, you will fully immerse yourself on each day of trekking – with great support, good food and excellent company along the way.

The Experience

Life on the trek

On an Action Challenge trip you’ll be part of a team which takes on an adventure together – and that’s what makes the experience so special. Getting to know others, supporting each other when the going gets tough, laughing together, and sharing those special moments & the new friendships that will stay with you for many years. Led by a UK Mountain Leader and supported by a Medic overseeing the group’s wellbeing – you’ll be in safe hands, and our expert local logistics team & guides will ensure it all runs like clockwork. These are ‘fully inclusive’ trips – leaving you to focus on your challenge, and to enjoy it!

An Action Challenge trip is much more than a holiday! It brings like-minded people together in fantastic landscapes, provides the best support & great hospitality, and enables the group to take on a tough & unforgettable challenge which forges new friendships, broaden horizons, and leaves you wanting more of life’s adventures!

The blueprint for Action Challenge trip is based on delivering a high quality enjoyable experience – and doing it all safely. An experienced UK Mountain Leader ensures that all aspects of the challenge run to plan – and one of our UK Medics with an expedition med kit is on-hand to look after the group’s wellbeing – enabling everyone to have the best chance of successfully competing their challenge.

We go to great lengths to ensure that we only use the best local organisations to supply the all-important ground logistics and the on-challenge support, catering, and hospitality teams – with experienced guides leading the way on the trails with their deep local knowledge and authentic style.

Like minded people with a similar sense of adventure – but often from very different backgrounds, and with a wide range of experience, ages, levels of fitness, and personal ambitions. Our trips are perfect for individuals, couples, and small groups of friends to join – and then to take on a unique challenge as part of a larger group which shapes & bonds as the adventure unfolds!

Whether its’s the hotels,  restaurants & transfers before & after the main challenge – or the challenge accommodation & meals whilst out on the trails – our all inclusive packages mean that you will get a top quality experience at a great value price! Flights are generally included, but there’s a ‘land only’ option if you’d prefer to book your own – and single supplement accommodation upgrades are available.

VisasIf you are a ‘Flights Included’ participant, we will be organising this for you upon arrival into Amman airport. If you are travelling as a land only challenger, you must organise your own Visa. You can do this upon arrival in Amman. The cost is 40 Jordanian Dinars.

The group comes together – takes on a tough challenge together – and then celebrates its achievements in style on the final night of the trip in a local restaurant or hotel, with medals, awards, and a maybe a bit of a party! Many of our participants make new special friends on our trips – and quite a few come back together for another challenge in the following years!

A successful challenge starts with good preparation. The better prepared you are the more confident you’ll be, and the more you’ll enjoy it! Our ‘Challenge App’ will have all the info & details of what to expect on your challenge – and how to prepare for it – and we have optional training walks, training weekends , and a place on one of our UK Ultra Challenge events to get out on the tails and test your fitness, kit, & equipment.

Itinerary & Route

Please note that some details of the itinerary may change, you will be provided with a detailed itinerary once you are signed up to the challenge.

Meet your team at the airport and fly overnight to Chile. On arrival in Santiago, take a domestic flight to Punta Arenas at Chile’s southernmost tip. Meet the local crew and transfer to our hotel for the night.

After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, we leave Punta Arenas heading north cross the pampa to reach the Torres del Paine National park (4-5h). This is our first introduction to the wild Patagonian landscape, passing estancias and sheep farming country. For our trek today we start with an easy loop walk from our camp.

After breakfast we have a short transfer to Pudeto’s pier to take the ferry and cross Pehoe lake (40min). Our first big trek takes us up towards the Grey Glacier on a 3-4 hour walk. From here, we may have our first views of the Southern Patagonian Icecap spilling into Lago Grey. We stop at the mirador from where we can watch as chunks of the icecap tumble into the water to form icebergs. We camp at Paine Grande tonight.

Today our route takes us along one of the most spectacular cirques in the Paine range. There is opportunity to climb up to a mirador, or viewpoint, which commands views of the mighty Frances Glacier from which the valley derives its name. Here magnificent panorama of glacial lakes is supplemented by the back of the famous Towers that mark Paine Grand. After spending some time admiring the permanent ice of the glacier and the surrounding mountain peaks we return down the valley to the Italian Camp and  trek the last steeply undulating hours above Lago Nordenskjold to our next accommodation set below the strangely weathered Cuernos del Paine

After a camping night, we set off on a relatively short easy day hiking following Lago Nordenskjold to Las Torres. The track undulates for some time along the lake presenting magnificent views of Paine Chico and the Towers ahead of us and the Cuernos behind. We descend for half an hour, crossing several gushing rivers over the rolling forested terrain and then climb steeply away from the lake over a pass. We come to a flat stretch around a small lake and then gradually descend to Las Torres good camp.

Today is definitely the highlight of our stay in the national park, with an early start as we set off up the Torres valley to The Torres del Paine. The huge granite towers are a truly magnificent sight. The five-hour trek begins with a steep climb, with Paine Chico 2668m on our left, before following the river and the spectacularly situated Chileno refuge. It is a further two and a half hours of tough climbing up the huge glaciated valley to the towers themselves, the last stretch over rocks and boulders. After spending some time at the towers absorbing the views and atmosphere, we return to Las Torres for a final evening celebration our achievement tonight in the midst of the national park at Las Torres.

We leave our camp for the last time and head out of the park. After a few hours, we stop in Puerto Natales to enjoy a tasty lunch. We then catch our afternoon transfer to Punta Arenas for our evening flight to Santiago and on to the UK.
